Step-by-Step

History of Łukasiewicz – Industrial Chemistry Institute

Łukasiewicz – Industrial Chemistry Institute It is a research institute with a history stretching back over 100 years. It is the successor to the METAN Company, established in 1916 in Lviv on the initiative of Professor Ignacy Mościcki, which was soon transformed into the Chemical Research Institute.

On June 1, 2020, the following belonging to the Łukasiewicz Research Network: the Pharmaceutical Institute and the Institute of Biotechnology and Antibiotics were incorporated into the Industrial Chemistry Institute (Lukasiewicz – ICHP).

Today, we are a leading research institute in Poland in the field of applied research and development in chemistry, chemical technology, biotechnology and pharmacy. The Institute’s achievements include more than 2,000 patents and hundreds of original technological and apparatus developments applied on an industrial scale at home and abroad.

get to know our patrons

Ignacy Łukasiewicz

The patron of our research network is Ignacy Łukasiewicz (1822–1882) – a Polish pharmacist, entrepreneur, social and patriotic activist, philanthropist and pioneer of the oil industry. He was the founder of the world’s first oil mine and the inventor of the kerosene lamp.

Ignacy Mościcki

The patron of our Institute is Professor Ignacy Mościcki (1867–1946) – a Polish chemist and politician, who served as the third President of the Republic of Poland from 1926 to 1939. He was a scientist, inventor and a key figure in the development of the Polish chemical industry.

We Are

Part of the Łukasiewicz Research Network

Our institute is part of one of the largest research networks in Europe. Łukasiewicz comprises 22 institutes employing over 4,500 people. Together, we create innovative solutions that give companies a competitive edge in business.
