Professor Rafał Marcin ŁUKASIK
Acting Director of the Łukasiewicz – Industrial Chemistry Institute
Prof. Rafał Marcin Łukasik is a chemical engineer whose career bridges scientific excellence, policy advice, and international cooperation. Most recently, he served as the Director of the Research, Innovation and Commercialisation Department at Łukasiewicz Centre, that is a part of Łukasiewicz Research Network, and serves as the Presidential Plenipotentiary for International Relations. In 2025, he was appointed to the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors to the European Commission, where he contributes independent, evidence-based recommendations on critical challenges for European Union. He also sits on the Executive Board of EARTO, actively shaping European strategies for research and technology organizations. At the national level, he is a member of the General Council for Science and Higher Education and advises the Polish Ministry of Science on the promotion of Polish science abroad and on the development of research infrastructures as well as on updating the National Science Policy.
Before returning to Poland in 2023, Prof. Łukasik spent nearly 20 years in Portugal, most notably at the National Laboratory of Energy and Geology (LNEG), where he worked as Senior Researcher and led initiatives in bioenergy, biofuels, and the circular bioeconomy. He also contributed as an expert to the European Commission’s DG Research & Innovation on research infrastructures and innovation policy, as well as to European platforms such as ETIP Bioenergy. His scientific work focuses on green chemistry, renewable energy, and biorefineries, and he is recognized for advancing sustainable technologies with industrial and policy impact.
Prof. Łukasik’s academic record is equally strong: he holds a Ph.D. and habilitation in Chemical Engineering from NOVA University of Lisbon and was awarded the title of Full Professor in Chemical Engineering in Poland in 2022. He is the author of more than 130 peer-reviewed papers with over 8,000 citations, two scientific monographs, numerous book chapters, and six patents, including international ones. This combined record of scholarship, innovation, and policy engagement has positioned him as a leading European expert connecting science, technology, and decision-making.

Dr. Arkadiusz Majoch, PhD, is an expert in fuel chemistry and refinery technology with over twenty years of experience in the industry. He graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry at the Warsaw University of Technology in 1999, obtained a PhD (PhD Eng.) at the Air Force Institute of Technology in the field of aviation fuel storage, and in 2007 obtained an MBA from the Kozminski University in Warsaw.
He began his career in research institutes, where he gained expertise in organic chemistry and fuel production and exploitation technologies. In 2015, he joined PKN ORLEN S.A. as Head of the Fuel and Standardization Team, where he was responsible for creating quality standards and implementing modern solutions such as Efecta and VERVA gasoline, as well as products for military use. At ORLEN S.A., he has served as Director of the Office responsible for innovation and new technology development since 2019. He supervised the construction, equipping, and implementation of the largest Research and Development Center in Poland, focusing on decarbonization, the development of biofuels, biochemicals, the circular economy, and the digitization of industrial processes.
Until 2025, he was the long-standing Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ORLEN Laboratorium, LOTOS Lab Sp. z o.o., and a member of the Supervisory Board of UNICRE, one of the Czech companies in the ORLEN Capital Group. As a director in the ORLEN strategy division, he represented the company in scientific and industrial institutions, including the supervisory bodies of the Łukasiewicz Network institutes, the Polish Academy of Engineering, and at industry events such as the Polish Chemistry Congress, TECHCO Forum, Impact, and the European Economic Congress. In 2024, he was awarded the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations medal for co-authoring the development and implementation of a special-purpose gasoline technology for storage as part of strategic reserves. He is a supervisor of several doctoral students, including four who have already defended their theses. He is the author of numerous technical articles, patents, and conference presentations and panels.
He has been associated with the Institute since 2025, when he took up the position of Director of the Center for Sustainable Chemistry, where he coordinated research work in the areas of energy transition and the development of innovative technologies for the chemical industry. Since January 2026, as Research Director, he has been responsible for the strategic development of the Institute’s scientific, research, and implementation activities.

Graduate of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology. Engineer with 45 years of experience in chemistry, business, and production management.
In 2002-2005, he was employed as Director of the Strategy and Restructuring Office at NAFTA POLSKA S.A., and then in 2006 he was a member of the Management Board at Zakłady Azotowe w Tarnowie-Mościcach S.A. From 2007 to 2010, he worked as Head of the Agro Division at CIECH S.A., where he was responsible for developing organizational and business processes and projects in the newly created Agro Division. From 2015 to 2016, he was a member of the Management Board of GA “SIARKOPOL” S.A.
Since 2016, employed at the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Industrial Chemistry Institute (formerly the Industrial Chemistry Institute) in Warsaw. Currently holds the position of Deputy Director for Finance and Operations.
