Łukasiewicz – Industrial Chemistry Institute – the largest chemical research institutes in Poland is located in Warsaw.
The Pharmaceutical Research Institute and the Institute of Biotechnology and Antibiotics, belonging to The Łukasiewicz Network, have been incorporated into the Łukasiewicz – Industrial Chemistry Institute form June 1st, 2020.
The main tasks of the Institute are: scientific research focusing on applications, development, design and industrial application activities in the field of chemistry. The Institute offers licenses and know-how for modern chemical processes. Basic and applied research works are conducted; development works, implementation and design works are carried out which are related to chemical processes with particular reference to:
- Petrochemistry and carbochemistry
- Organic synthesis
- Chemistry and technology of polymers and plastics
- Household chemistry
- Industrial catalysis and biocatalysis
- Applied physical chemistry
- Auxiliary materials for medicine
- Process safety
- Environmental protection
- Biotechnology
The Institute is also active in the marketing field, in the area of scientific technical and economical information, in the area of inventions, rationalization, and protection of industrial and intellectual property. Analyses and evaluations of the condition and of the state of development of chemistry and chemical technology are performed, including diagnostic studies and technical and economical analyses. Łukasiewicz – ICI is the Editor of scientific journal “Polimery”. An essential part of Łukasiewicz – ICI’s activities is the coordination and directing of the national and international standardization activities, conducting the works concerned with the quality of industrial articles and products, cooperation with domestic and foreign institutions, promoting the growth and development of the scientific and R&D cadres, running the publishing activities and training activities for Institute’s own needs and for other units.
The currently existing competences of the Łukasiewicz – Industrial Chemistry Institute are extended to include those in the field of pharmacy and biotechnology. They will focus in particular on the comprehensive development of technologies for the production of generic medicinal products of key therapeutic and social importance, as well as the production of active substances, including new generation biopharmaceuticals and vaccines. Łukasiewicz – ICI will also become a registered manufacturer of the cytostatic drug Biodribin® used against hairy cell leukemia at all stages of the disease, as well as against chronic lymphocytic leukemia and in low-grade non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas in cases resistant to treatment with other cytostatics.
The Łukasiewicz Research Network is a unique project of great commercial potential. We are an integrated market player providing attractive, comprehensive and competitive business solutions in the fields of automation, chemicals, biomedicine, ICT, materials, and advanced manufacturing. With 4,500 staff and 22 research institutes located in 12 cities across Poland, we are the one largest research network in Europe.
An important factor of the ICI management strategy is the active participation in the works of various international institutions, among them:
